Michael G Thomas, MRICS, ICIOB is a Chartered Surveyor and the Managing Director of JEC Property Consultants Ltd., Grand Cayman, a firm of Chartered Surveyors which was established in the Cayman Islands in 1984. The firm employs Chartered Quantity Surveyors, Chartered General Practice or Valuation Surveyors, Chartered Building Surveyors and Construction Project Managers.  JEC Property Consultants Ltd is one of the, leading firms in Quantity Surveying and Valuation operating in the Cayman Islands.

He is a professionally qualified Chartered Quantity Surveyor and Chartered Builder elected Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 1991 and a member of the Chartered Institute of Building since 1992. He is also a Member of the Cayman Society of Architects, Surveyors and Engineers and have served as committee member. He is a RICS Registered Valuer and an RICS Accredited Commercial Mediator.

He studied at Lancashire University and in the early years of his career he was employed as a Site Engineer and Foreman on a variety of new build projects before moving into Quantity Surveying for Shepherd Construction Ltd., a large UK construction company. Following this, he worked for 5 years for Todd & Ledson which is a medium sized UK based Quantity Surveying private practice in their London office before moving to the Cayman Islands in 1992 to work for JEC Property Consultants Ltd.

He became a Director of JEC in 1995 and Managing Director in 1998 and in that time he has overseen numerous construction projects in the Cayman Islands in varying capacities. He has prepared independent reports for banks and lending institutions on issues of construction cost and value and have been appointed by various companies including firms of attorneys to give his opinion on the value of properties, construction costs and construction contract issues. During this time he has been involved in the mediation of both valuation and construction disputes and he has given expert witness testimony both in Court, Arbitration and Mediation.

He studied Arbitration through the College of Estate Management by correspondence course in the mid 90’s and have a good knowledge of Arbitration procedures. In August 2013 he became an RICS Accredited Civil Commercial Mediator. His specialist fields are Quantity Surveying / Construction / Construction Cost Consultancy and Valuation of Property in the Cayman Islands and has been appointed as Mediator on both formal and informal Mediations.
